Former Notre Dame QB Tyler Buchner transfers to Alabama
Quarterback Tyler Buchner is transferring from Notre Dame to Alabama, he announced on social media Thursday.
Buchner entered the transfer portal Tuesday and was the projected best quarterback remaining.
The 20-year-old flew to Alabama on Wednesday to meet with Nick Saban and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, who'd held the same position at Notre Dame for the last three years.
Buchner had other visits scheduled but canceled them after being impressed with Saban and the Crimson Tide, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.
The former top-50 recruit began the 2022 campaign as the starter before suffering a shoulder injury in the second game of the year. He returned for the Gator Bowl, throwing for 273 yards and recording five total touchdowns.
Buchner will battle with Ty Simpson and Jalen Milroe for the starting spot this summer.
