EA Sports College Football on track for summer 2024 release
Despite facing a lawsuit over licensing rights, EA Sports intends to roll out its long-awaited college football video game next year.
"We're incredibly excited to bring back an authentic college football experience for fans and athletes that have shown such passion for the franchise, and we're looking forward to delivering it in summer 2024," an Electronic Arts spokesperson told On3's Pete Nakos.
The Brandr Group, which negotiates group licensing deals for over 54 Division I schools, sued EA in June for tortious interference over the NIL deals the video game company offered athletes.
EA had reportedly been in contact with Brandr since 2021 regarding its plans to offer NIL compensation but reached an agreement with competitor OneTeam Partners in May to facilitate licensing deals for EA Sports College Football.
On3 reported in June that EA's cash pool to pay athletes who appear in the game is around $5 million, which works out to $500 per player. Athletes reportedly won't receive royalties from sales of the game.
EA Sports College Football will mark the company's first college football game since NCAA Football 14.
