Georgia's Beck wins starting QB job
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart named Carson Beck his starting quarterback Saturday.
"He's done the best job. We communicated that early in the week to the other quarterbacks," Smart said, according to The Athletic's Seth Emerson.
The junior passer beat out Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton for the starting role. Beck will replace Stetson Bennett, who led the Bulldogs to back-to-back national titles in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Beck has seen limited action early in his Georgia tenure. He's thrown for 486 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions with a 62.1 completion rate in 11 games over the last two seasons.
"I am not even the same player compared to my first year - athletically, physically, and mentally. Even just as a human being," Beck said, according to Dawgs247's Jordan D. Hill.
With talented pass-catchers such as Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey at his disposal, Beck is tasked with leading the Bulldogs to another SEC championship and a successful playoff run.
Georgia opens the season Sept. 2 against UT Martin. It'll mark the first time since Week 4 of the 2021 season that a quarterback other than Bennett will start under center for the Bulldogs, per ESPN's Chris Low.
