Penix's -145 odds mean the betting market believes his chances of winning college football's top honor are approximately 59%. He can further strengthen his Heisman resume when his Huskies visit Caleb Williams and USC in Week 10.
The next biggest Heisman threat is Oklahoma's Dillon Gabriel, who entered the season as a long shot to win the Heisman at +4000 (2.4% implied probability). However, he's led the Sooners to a 6-0 start - including a huge win over Texas in the Red River Rivalry - with 16 passing touchdowns and adding another five on the ground, shortening his odds drastically to +900 (10% implied probability).
Gabriel's path to an undefeated season is a tad easier than Penix's. Oklahoma's toughest remaining test will be on the road against Oklahoma State in Week 10.
Penix and Gabriel were two players targeted as valuable bets to win the Heisman prior to the season. How Week 10 unfolds could make the ultimate difference in who earns the coveted honor.
As for Williams, the betting market is souring on him to win the award in back-to-back seasons. The projected first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft entered the season as the Heisman favorite, but his odds drifted further to +2000 following an ugly loss to Notre Dame.
