Report: QB Sayin to join mass exodus from Alabama
Alabama freshman quarterback Julian Sayin intends on entering the transfer portal, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Sayin was the No. 1-ranked dual-threat passer in the 2024 recruiting class, according to the ESPN 300.
Sayin is opting to explore his options following the retirement of head coach Nick Saban, according to Thamel.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Sayin was the highest-rated member of Alabama's 2024 recruiting class. He earned MVP honors at the prestigious Elite 11 finals camp prior to his senior year of high school.
Sayin passed for 2,369 yards, 24 touchdowns, and one interception to go along with a 147.3 passer rating during his senior campaign at Carlsbad High School in California, per MaxPreps.
Alabama is seeing some notable attrition as it continues to transition from Saban to new head coach Kalen DeBoer. The reigning SEC champions lost plenty of key players over the past few weeks, including starters Caleb Downs and Kadyn Proctor to the transfer portal.
LSU, Ohio State, and Texas were among several programs that pursued Sayin during his recruitment. He's expected to use the one-time transfer exemption and enroll in a new school for spring practice in the upcoming weeks.
The Crimson Tide's QB depth chart currently features Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson, and Dylan Lonergan.
