UNLV running back Michael Allen plans to redshirt for the remainder of the 2024 season and enter the transfer portal, he announced Wednesday.

"I have decided to utilize my redshirt and enter the portal at the end of the season as a (redshirt junior). I'm grateful for UNLV and wish them nothing but success," Allen said in a statement on social media.

"Expectations for opportunities unfortunately were not met and I am excited to continue my football career."

The decision comes shortly after Rebels starting quarterback Matthew Sluka announced he will sit out the remainder of the 2024 season. Marcus Cromartie, Sluka's representation, said that UNLV verbally promised Sluka a minimum of $100,000 to transfer from Holy Cross.

UNLV ultimately offered Sluka a NIL deal worth $88,000 less than what was verbally agreed upon and only ever paid out a $3,000 relocation fee, according to Cromartie. The school's NIL collective insists it never agreed to a $100,000 deal with the quarterback.

Allen decided to enter the portal more than a week ago but only announced it Wednesday, reports Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.

The NC State transfer racked up 174 yards on 30 touches in three games and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

UNLV is off to a 3-0 start after defeating Kansas last week and faces Fresno State on Saturday.
