Report: UNLV hiring Mullen as next head coach
UNLV is hiring Dan Mullen as its next head coach, sources told Brett McMurphy of Action Network.
Mullen was the head coach at Florida from 2018-21. He was fired four years into a six-year deal he signed in November 2017. Mullen went to the Gators after spending nine seasons as the head boss at Mississippi State.
The 52-year-old has spent the last few years as an analyst for ESPN.
"I love doing the TV. I love the situation I'm at. You never say never to go back to coaching. It would have to be the right head coaching opportunity for me and my family," Mullen said in November, according to Nick Schultz of On3.
Mullen added: "When you coach, you're all-in. It's life-consuming. It consumes your life, your whole family's life. So, if the right opportunity ever presented itself, you never know, I might go back. But I'm really enjoying this kind of media, TV life."
Barry Odom, UNLV's coach for the last two seasons, was hired as Purdue's next head coach last week. Odom went 19-8 during his tenure and helped secure the Rebels a spot in the Mountain West championship this campaign, where they lost to Boise State.
Mullen owns a 103-61 record in 13 seasons as a college head coach.
