Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers doesn't hold any animosity toward his former team, Ohio State, ahead of Friday's CFP semifinal matchup in the Cotton Bowl.

"Learned a lot when I was there under Coach (Ryan) Day and C.J. (Stroud). ... Super thankful for that time that I got to spend there," Ewers said Monday, according to Eleven Warriors. He added: "I don't regret any decision I've made ... but the main reason I went was I felt like I had a great relationship with the coaching staff, and they were winning a lot of games. I wanted to go be part of something like that. ...

"The reason I came back to Texas was to be closer to where I'm from and just closer to the resources that I have and the relationships that I've built over time just being from Texas."

Ewers was initially a class of 2022 prospect but reclassified to the 2021 recruiting cycle by skipping his senior year of high school. He said he made the transition to start profiting from his name, image, and likeness. The state of Texas doesn't allow athletes to profit from NIL while competing in high school sports.

The No. 1 prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, Ewers flipped his commitment from Texas to Ohio State out of high school. He joined the Buckeyes for their fall camp but spent most of the season as a spectator. He transferred to Texas after one semester in a bid to earn more playing time.

Despite only seeing the field for two snaps at Ohio State, he credits the Buckeyes and his former teammates for helping him learn how to watch film and be a college quarterback.

Both Ewers and Texas have thrived since he joined the program during the 2022 season. He tallied 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions and posted a 158.8 passer rating to help the Longhorns win the Big 12 title and earn a berth in the College Football Playoff in 2023.

Ewers continued to shine in the Lone Star State this season. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound passer helped Texas establish a 13-2 mark in its SEC debut campaign.

The Longhorns can make their first appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship with a win over Ohio State on Friday.
