Ewers declined lucrative offers to transfer from Texas
Quarterback Quinn Ewers didn't consider offers to play for a school other than Texas before declaring for the NFL draft in January.
"I wanted to leave my legacy at Texas, and I didn't want to disrupt anything that I did at Texas to be flipped or turned in any other way," Ewers said, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. "I just wanted to be remembered in college at Texas."
The 21-year-old received an $8 million NIL offer to transfer to another program after last season, according to Horns 247's Chip Brown.
Ewers spent three seasons (2022-24) with the Longhorns after transferring from Ohio State. He led Texas to two consecutive College Football Playoff semifinals over the past two years and finished last season throwing for 3,472 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Ewers ended his collegiate career having passed for 9,128 yards and 68 scores, ranking him third in the school's history in both categories.
The signal-caller also revealed he was only healthy for three outings in 2024 after sustaining an oblique tear and high ankle sprain.
"I'd probably say I played two games, maybe three games, healthy," Ewers said, per Archer. "They labeled (it) as a sprain but it didn't feel like just a sprain."
Touted quarterback Arch Manning filled in for Ewers when he was sidelined. The nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning led the Longhorns to victory during his brief stint as a starter, and he'll be the No. 1 option under center with Ewers moving to the NFL.
"He's going to be a good ballplayer for them," Ewers said of Manning. "I'm excited to watch him."
