Four-star quarterback Ryder Lyons committed to BYU over fellow finalists Oregon and USC, he announced on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound signal-caller is the fifth-rated quarterback and No. 49 overall prospect in the country, per the ESPN 300. Lyons is considered as a five-star prospect by other recruiting outlets.

Ryder, the younger brother of USC tight end Walker Lyons, cancelled his visit to the Trojans, opting to see the Ducks' and Cougars' campuses, respectively.

The Folsom, California native passed for 3,011 yards, rushed for 585 yards, and tallied 60 total touchdowns, per Max Preps. He was named California's 2024 Gatorade Player of the Year.

Though Lyons is a member of BYU's 2026 class, he's not expected to head to Provo, Utah until after completing his missionary service with The Church of Jesus, set to begin next January, according to Deseret News' Dick Harmon.

Head coach Kalani Sitake lands his third ESPN 300 commitment for 2026. Lyons joins tight end Brock Harris and offensive/defensive lineman Bott Mulitalo among current Cougar pledges.
