Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham confirmed Tuesday that quarterback Sam Leavitt plans to enter the transfer portal.

"I love Sam. He grew so much here. ... Whatever his future holds, I wish him nothing but the best. I absolutely want to see him succeed," Dillingham also said Monday, according to ESPN's Paolo Uggetti.

Leavitt could still declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, but his time at Arizona State appears to be over. He led the Sun Devils to a Big 12 title and a spot in the College Football Playoffs in 2024.

The 20-year-old battled injuries this season and only suited up in seven games. Dillingham announced in late October that Leavitt would undergo surgery to repair a lingering foot ailment.

If Leavitt doesn't declare for the draft, he'll become one of the most coveted players in the portal. He transferred to Arizona State after one season at Michigan State and has 5,462 total yards with 46 touchdowns during his three-year college career.

Jeff Sims, who was the Sun Devils' starter with Leavitt sidelined, has run out of eligibility and won't be back in 2026. They have 2025 four-star recruit Cameron Dyer on the roster, and another highly touted four-star recruit, Jake Fette, set to join the team next season.
