Read Option: Notre Dame and Under Armour agree to landmark uniform deal

The Read Option is your morning destination for all the news, notes, quotes, and jokes from around college football.

Notre Dame and Under Armour agree to ten-year, $90 million deal

Notre Dame and Under Armour have reportedly reached an agreement on the richest shoe and apparel contract in college football history. According to ESPN, the deal is worth $90 million over ten years. Adidas and Michigan previously had the most valuable contract at $82 million over ten years. Under Armour stock prices spiked on Tuesday amid news of the deal, which also gives Notre Dame the ability to defer some of the payment to company stock.

The biggest question on the minds of many Notre Dame fans and college football traditionalists is this: what does it mean for the look of Fighting Irish football?

Not all that much, according to Under Armour founder and CEO Kevin Plank.

“We're not anticipating doing anything unusual, crazy,” Plank said during a news conference Tuesday in South Bend. “We need to honor and respect the history of the University.”

“We believe that less is more,” Plank said, “particularly in the early days, and as we get comfortable and I think as our team and our team of designers and our innovation teams, as we get comfortable first and foremost, these uniforms will be reflective of the latest and greatest technology we have."

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick echoed Plank's approach to design, noting that the program will ultimately control the look of the uniforms.

“If there's a school that changes its uniforms less than we do, it's (Under Armour client) Auburn,” Swarbrick said. “They don't make any modifications to their uniform, and Under Armour has been very comfortable with that, has been a great partner with them and obviously this year proved they can be a great partner with them.

“We've proved we're very comfortable in that regard. We will control the look and feel of the uniforms. We're going to focus on how those uniforms enhance performance as much as we're going to focus on what they look like.”

Darren Rovell of ESPN also notes that Under Armour will not receive any signage benefit inside Notre Dame Stadium.

Under Armour currently provides basketball and/or football uniforms and apparel for Auburn, Boston College, Colorado State, Hawaii, Maryland, Navy, Northwestern, South Carolina, South Florida, St. John's, Texas Tech, and Utah.

Northwestern RB Venric Mark granted fifth year of eligibility

The Big Ten has approved Northwestern running back Venric Mark's application for a medical hardship waiver, the school announced on Tuesday. Mark battled injuries through parts of three games in 2013 and missed the remainder of the season after fracturing his ankle on October 12. The 5-foot-8, 175 pound running back enjoyed a tremendous breakout season in 2012, rushing for 1,366 yards and 12 touchdowns, while leading the Big Ten in punt return yards (280) and punt return touchdowns (2).

Sooners CB Aaron Colvin tears ACL during Senior Bowl practice

Devastating news here for Oklahoma cornerback Aaron Colvin, who tore his ACL while participating in drills in preparation for the Senior Bowl. Colvin is currently the ninth ranked cornerback, and 77th player overall according to NFLDraftScout.com. He was expected to be drafted somewhere in the second or third round.

Coaching changes and notes

Seth Litrell is reportedly leaving his role as offensive coordinator at Indiana for the same position with North Carolina. Litrell worked as the Hoosiers offensive coordinator for three seasons.

UAB had tabbed Bill Clark as its new head coach. Clark spent one season as head coach of Jacksonville State. The team finished 11-4, and lost to Eastern Washington in the FCS quarterfinals.

Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz confirmed reports on Tuesday that former Texas and Mississippi State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz will join the Bulldogs. Diaz spent the last three seasons as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Texas.

College GameDay sign nets OSU student a date with a porn star

Ok kids, if you ever want to fulfill those dreams of dating a porn star, then you're gonna have to get creative with your ESPN College GameDay signage. One Oklahoma State student took a shot at Baylor's defense by noting it had more holes to fill than noted MILF porn actress Lisa Ann.

Ann was informed of the sign, and tracked down its maker on Twitter. Matt McGann attended the AVN Awards last weekend as Ms. Ann's date. Ann received awards for "Hottest MILF" and "Best MILF Release" at the event.

If you'd like to know just how many holes Lisa Ann has to fill, you can Google terms 'Lisa Ann' + 'airtight.' I'm sorry.
