Arkansas State auctions coaching gig for spring game, fetches $11,700

The head coaching gig at Arkansas State has been a revolving door ever since the departure of Steve Roberts in 2010.

Since then, the team has gone through three coaches in three years, and is on to a fourth in 2014.

Given the turnover rate the program has experienced at the position, the Red Wolves decided to poke a little bit of fun at themselves. They've decided to auction off the rights to coach its spring game on eBay.

The highest bidder was 25-year-old Silicon Valley entrepreneur Nick Bhardwaj, who didn't even attend Arkansas State.

"I dropped out of San Jose State and didn't have a chance to enjoy the full college experience," Bhardwaj told ESPN.com. "Doing this, even for a day, is a way to make up for that.

"I can't wait to fully engross myself in the process, to see how evaluating real-time data plays a role in exploiting opportunities. As a first-time CEO of a company, I also want to learn more about leadership and how Coach Anderson deals with what is in front of him."

The idea to auction the position was actually that of the team's new head coach, Blake Anderson.

"We raised more money here on this than we did at Southern Miss or Carolina," Anderson said.

The money will go to the Red Wolves Foundation, which is the athletic department's booster organization that helps to fund the program.

"This is a great way for us to raise money to help us function when a line item doesn't fit, as in needing a new computer or a bus to take us somewhere," Anderson said.

Anderson added: "We'll make sure that the person who won this will get the red carpet treatment."
