Report: Ohio State's Jamal Marcus set to transfer

Greg Bartram / USA TODAY Sports

After missing portions of spring practice because of academic difficulties and seeing limited playing time last season, defensive end Jamal Marcus will transfer from the Buckeyes, according to Bill Rabinowitz of the The Columbus Dispatch.

Early reports suggested that Marcus was dismissed from the school, but a source told Rabinowitz that the decision was mutual.

Marcus had spent the majority of the time last season as the backup to Noah Spence. It wasn't until Spence was suspended that Marcus finally got a chance to play. He appeared in the Orange Bowl against Clemson and registered six tackles.

Rabinowitz notes that Marcus would have had an opportunity to start for the Buckeyes since Spence's suspension will continue during the first two games of the upcoming season.

No announcement on his future destination has been made.
