Virginia Tech knocks off No. 8 Ohio State in Columbus
The Virginia Tech Hokies upset the eighth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus on Saturday, coming away with a 35-21 victory.
Ohio State hadn't lost a home opener since 1978 prior to Saturday. The Buckeyes had also gone 64-0 in their previous 64 games against unranked, non-conference opponents.
Ohio State trailed 21-7 at the half, and clawed their way back into it, tying the game 21-21, but Virginia Tech ran away with it from there.
Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett completed 9-of-29 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown, adding 70 yards and an additional score on the ground, though he fired three interceptions playing behind a leaky offesnive line.
It was a bad day overall for the Big Ten, as Saturday marked the first time since Sept. 17, 1988 that Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State all lost on the same day.
