The news comes at a positive time for Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze, as his team currently sits at 2-0. The Rebels won two convincing games over Boise State and Vanderbilt to start the season.
Richmond is currently the first-ranked recruit in Mississippi and the fifth-ranked player at his position in the nation, according to Rivals.com.
He said he wanted to play close to home, at an Ole Miss campus that sits just 90 minutes from his current high school.
Moreover, he said a few friends currently play on the team and several other friends attend the school.
It would be fun to play with guys like Laremy Tunsil and Ben Still, my best friend and former teammate. Ben and I are really close and that's one thing I like. I also have good relationships with a lot of guys on the team and just a lot of students that I know from my school.
Richmond will join four-star recruit Eric Swinney as the only other prospect ranked four stars or higher in the Rebels' current eight-man recruiting class.
