Report: West Virginia's Travis Bell has 'retired'
The tumultuous career of West Virginia cornerback Travis Bell has apparently come to an end.
Coach Dana Holgorsen said Tuesday that the senior "has retired" after he took a week off and didn't play vs. Oklahoma.
Holgorsen said of the "retirement" Tuesday that the Mountaineers "wish him well."
The fifth-year senior started nine games in 2013, but was suspended for spring practice following two arrests for domestic battery and DUI. Both of those incidences happened over a 10-month span. He was reinstated for preseason camp and appeared in the Mountaineers first three games.
Reporters asked Holgorsen Monday whether Bell was still an active member of the team: “That’s a good question," Holgorson said. "I will probably meet with him today to see where he’s at.”
The first arrest involved a domestic battery charge after Bell allegedly got into a fight with his girlfriend.
