John Clune, an attorney for the woman who accused Florida State's Jameis Winston of rape last year, disputes the $7-million extortion claim made Wednesday, alleging it was Winston's attorney, David Cornwell, who contacted her former attorney Patricia Carroll "to discuss paying off our client," according to ESPN.
Settlement discussions, according to Clune, were "immediately unproductive" and the accuser's attorneys decided to discontinue the talks. "Although it is our understanding that settlement was discussed at that meeting, no authorized demands were made of Mr. Winston."
UPDATE: The entire letter issued by Winston's attorney, David Cornwell, and sent to Florida State has been obtained by AL.com with the accuser's name redacted.
