Boykin shines in signature victory over Texas Tech
Saturday was one of those nights where everything seemed to be going right for Trevone Boykin and TCU.
With a final score of 82-27, it's safe to say the Horned Frogs know how to run their offense, and no one is better equipped to run that offense than junior starting quarterback Boykin, who made history in just three quarters against Texas Tech on Saturday night.
After registering three touchdown passes in the first half of the showdown against the Red Raiders, Boykin came into the third quarter a man possessed and added four touchdown passes to surpass the school's previous single-game passing touchdown record by two with seven touchdowns.
To put that in contrast, Boykin had seven touchdowns in 12 games (six start) all last season.
While TCU also set a school record for points in a game against Texas Tech, the real story was how Boykin managed to transcend simple starting quarterback status into being a true star.
This was Boykin's coming-out party, a testament to the hard work he put in as a consistently high-level quarterback all season. It was his opportunity to show everyone that he was more than capable of carrying this TCU team into contender status moving forward, and he relished it.
The competition remains steep: TCU faces West Virginia next week and Kansas State the week after that and despite clearly establishing itself as an elite offensive team, they need Boykin at his best.
If he can muster a performance anything close to what he did Saturday, the Horned Frogs won't have a lot to worry about.
