Kent State University has hired an outside consultant - Collegiate Sports Associates - to assess its athletics programs, including whether to cut any sports programs, according to Rick Armon of the Akron Beacon Journal.
"We’re going to review the entire program top to bottom from all of our sports to what we’re doing academically to our sports services," said Kent State Athletic Director Joel Nielsen.
The university is reviewing its budget in an effort to see where it fits within Division I sports.
Kent State has 18 varsity athletics programs with an athletics budget of $26 million.
Collegiate Sports Associates will be paid $35,000 and will give their final report in May.
