Joe Tumpkin has resigned from his post as Central Michigan's defensive coordinator, according to Nate Schneider of the Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun.

Tumpkin is no longer listed on the team's coaching staff as of Thursday morning.

A reason for his departure has not yet been announced, but given that the Chippewas were already down a coach, the shorthanded crew's search just got tougher.

Central Michigan is also looking to replace head coach Dan Enos, who defected for Arkansas's offensive coordinator position on Jan. 22.

Tumpkin had been in the role since 2010. He also spent time at Pitt and SMU.
