Towson dismisses ex-Miami QB Kevin Olsen ahead of spring practice

Kevin Olsen has been kicked off his second team in one academic year.

Olsen, once an incoming top prospect at Miami, has been dismissed from Towson for a violation of team rules, according to Edward Lee of The Baltimore Sun.

"The relationship we had with the kid and his family has gone on for quite some time, and everybody was pretty much assured that this would work out for the positive," Towson head coach Rob Ambrose said. "So it's disappointing for Kevin, it's disappointing for us, and we'll just move on."

Olsen transferred to Towson in December. He was dismissed from the Hurricanes in September after being arrested for DUI and possession of fake IDs.

Miami suspended Olsen on three separate occasions.

The move from Towson, an FCS program in Baltimore, came before Olsen even played a down in spring practice.

"It's a setback in that there’s one less quality player competing for the job,” Ambrose said. "But in truth, he never took a snap here. It's a setback in that you believed you had a semi-proven commodity as a player who was going to compete and make the team better.

"But it's not like he was anointed. He knew he was going to have to compete for the job, and there are some talented guys to compete against."
