Michigan State will welcome the son of a football legend as its first verbal commit in the 2017 class.

Hunter Rison, son of former Michigan State and NFL star Andre Rison, informed his father and head coach Mark Dantonio of his decision one day after wowing scouts at the Sound Mind Sound Body football camp, Mike Griffith of Mlive.com reports.

"He pulled me aside and told me he was ready to do it, and I said, 'Do what?'" the elder Rison said. "Man, I feel awesome. I'm thankful to the Lord I have a great son who's such a great person, not just great football player."

Messiah deWeaver, a quarterback committed to the Spartans as part of their 2016 class, said he was impressed with the younger Rison's receiving skills.

"He has a special ability to get open,'' deWeaver said. "He's very fast on his cuts, he catches the ball well, and he'll be a great player. Hunter's dad is legendary, so he'll follow in his footsteps.''

With Rison's commitment out of the way, his dad says he can focus on school for the next two years.

"My advice to him was don't let this (recruiting) become a circus and linger over you for two years,'' Rison said. "We have a big season coming up for us at Ann Arbor Skyline, and so I'm just elated."
