Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game president: Oregon, Auburn tried to schedule 2-game series
Auburn and Oregon will face off at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas in the 2019 AdvoCare Classic, a game college football fans are no doubt looking forward to.
But the sides flirted with the idea of a two-game series, according to Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game and Peach Bowl president Gary Stokan.
Stokan said the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game tried to pull the sides to Atlanta, but Oregon was unwilling to play so close to Auburn's campus.
"I'll be honest with you, we were the ones who started the Auburn-Oregon conversation and we did everything we could to try to get (it)," Stokan said, according to Brandon Marcello of AL.com. "Auburn wanted to play Oregon, Oregon wanted to play Auburn. Oregon didn't want to play Auburn in Atlanta without getting a rematch, so we talked to San Francisco, we talked to the Rose Bowl. We tried to put a neutral-neutral game with Auburn-Oregon and it just didn't work out."
While the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game has most often featured SEC and ACC schools, the game is attempting to lure Pac-12 teams.
The Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game distributes an average payout of $4.3 million to each team involved.
