Braxton Miller's dad: Son is a QB first, receiver 'if it comes down to that'
Braxton Miller's move to hybrid receiver is not set in stone just yet.
The Ohio State quarterback told Sports Illustrated on Thursday that he's moving to H-back since he's recovering from two shoulder surgeries. However, head coach Urban Meyer said it was "jumping the gun," because he hadn't made a firm decision on the switch.
Braxton's father, Kevin Miller, also says the position change isn't a sure thing.
"That's what he wants to do," Kevin told the Columbus Dispatch's Bill Rabinowitz of his son's desire to play quarterback.
"But being a competitor and a team player, if he doesn't feel that he's ready for quarterback because of the shoulder, he's open to doing whatever it takes to get on the field and help the team."
At his preferred position, the younger Miller is competing with two other stellar quarterbacks, Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett, for the Buckeyes' starting job.
Kevin says Braxton's preparation for a receiving role is a fallback, not his first choice.
"That's not his plan, but if it comes down to that, he's already been putting in work," explained Kevin. "You don't want to wait until the last minute."
Kevin said that he spoke to Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel, but wasn't quoted in the story.
"When I talked to him, I was kind of misinterpreted," explained Kevin.
"I didn't say it was set in stone. I said it all depended on the health of his shoulder."
