Oregon OC: Vernon Adams is 'doing a great job'
It hasn't taken long for quarterback Vernon Adams to make an impression at Oregon.
Adams has been practicing for less than a week, but has already caught the eye of offensive coordinator Scott Frost.
"Vernon is doing a great job," Frost told Chantel Jennings of ESPN. "I can see why he has been a great player at the lower level. I can see why he has won a lot of games. Whoever was coaching him before did a great job with him."
Adams is competing with Jeff Lockie for the starting role after transferring from Eastern Washington. The pivot came to the Ducks with an impressive resume, having thrown for more than 10,000 yards in three seasons with the Eagles.
The challenge for Adams will be picking up Oregon's offense quickly enough to start. Lockie has only played sparingly in the past two seasons, but still has a good grasp of the system.
Frost has been impressed with the newcomer's ability to digest the offense in such a short time frame.
"There's just so many little details to learn when you come in new," Frost said. "You learn those things over time. We'll keep trying to force-feed him and jam as many things into his head as his head can hold.
"But sometimes there's no substitute for experience and having seen some of the things we're talking about. So it's going to be a learning curve, but I've been impressed with how quick he has picked things up."
