Florida names Will Grier starting quarterback vs. Kentucky

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Florida will be starting Will Grier at quarterback when it opens its SEC schedule Saturday against Kentucky, the team announced Thursday.

Grier will be making his second consecutive start, following a 10-for-17 performance with two touchdowns in a win against East Carolina last week. The signal caller has split time with Treon Harris this season, who started in Week 1 for the Gators.

Florida head coach Jim McElwain still plans to use both pivots against the Wildcats.

Grier is a freshman who will be starting only his second career game, while Harris, a sophomore, appeared in nine contests last year.

Although the Gators seem content to rotate both players, McElwain is undoubtedly looking for someone to step up and seize the role on a full-time basis.
