Boston College's Jeff Smith to make 1st career start Saturday vs. Clemson
Mark Dolejs / USA TODAY Sports
Boston College true freshman quarterback Jeff Smith will make his first career start Saturday against Clemson.
Since starter Darius Wade's season was cut short by a broken ankle, Smith and Troy Flutie have been sharing reps under center, but Saturday will be Smith's first chance to lead the Eagles.
In his limited playing time this season, Smith has gone 9-for-30 for 86 yards.
Boston College is looking to snap a two-game losing skid, in which it's only totaled seven points.
Getting the offense to break through won't be an easy task for the freshman, as he faces a difficult test on the road at No. 5 Clemson.
