Former Alabama RB Altee Tenpenny dies in car accident
Former Alabama running back Altee Tenpenny was killed in a one-car crash on Tuesday, according to AL.com's John Talty.
Tenpenny, who was enrolled at Nicholls State, was driving through Mississippi when he collided with a highway sign around 5 p.m.
The accident sent the vehicle airborne and the car started rolling once it landed again. After that, the car collided with a utility pole and Tenpenny was ejected from the vehicle, according to highway patrol.
Tenpenny died on his way home to Arkansas. He was arrested in Louisiana on Sunday morning and charged with discharging a weapon and possession of a firearm, then suspended indefinitely from the football team Monday.
Nicholls State head coach Tim Rebowe released the following statement:
"On behalf of the players, coaches, and all of us at the University, we are extremely saddened by the news of the passing of Altee Tenpenny. We extend our condolences to his friends, family and former teammates."
After being ranked as one of the top high school running backs in the nation, Tenpenny enrolled at Alabama. He served as a reserve for two seasons and transferred to UNLV in May, but was dismissed in August.
