Michigan State's Watts-Jackson reveling in 'hero' status
It's been a whirlwind few days for Jalen Watts-Jackson.
The Michigan State defensive back was at the center of one of the most amazing college football plays ever, then found himself in the hospital with a broken hip.
Now, Watts-Jackson is recovering and enjoying his hero status after helping the Spartans remain undefeated in the most improbable of ways.
"It's crazy," he told Dan Murphy of ESPN, "that 10 seconds could take you from just being on the team to people tweeting you and text messaging you saying, 'You're a legend; You're a hero.'"
After corralling a botched snap on a Michigan punt, Watts-Jackson raced into the end zone with no time remaining to give Michigan State the win. His hip dislocated as he was tackled crossing the goal line, and then his ecstatic teammates pounced on him.
"I didn't know if I was going to make it or not," he said. "I didn't know who was behind me. After that, it was really just pain. ... Being under that pile with all those people, being about 190 pounds, is not that pleasant of an experience."
Watts-Jackson is now facing a six- or seven-month recovery, but insists he wouldn't change a thing.
