The sprained ankle Jordan Canzeri sustained Oct. 17 versus Northwestern will keep the Iowa running back out of the lineup when the Hawkeyes take on Maryland on Saturday, coach Kirk Ferentz announced.
The good news for Iowa fans, however, is that Canzeri's condition appears to be improving and his status is considered week to week.
"He's making good progress," Ferentz told reporters Tuesday. "He looked better two days after the injury than we anticipated. That's good news. He's feeling better by the day but when he'll be ready, I'm not sure yet."
Canzeri was expected to miss multiple weeks with the ankle ailment, but the Hawkeyes, who are coming off a bye week, were hopeful that he wouldn't miss many games. Iowa, 7-0, sits atop the Big Ten West, and barring a late-season collapse, will be a shoe-in for the conference championship game.
The Hawkeyes also ruled out offensive lineman Ike Boettger, who's dealing with an ankle issue of his own.
