Florida's defense dominant as Gators smash Georgia
Mark Richt's surprise move to start third-string quarterback Faton Bauta backfired as Florida intercepted the first-time starter four times, rolling to a 27-3 win Saturday.
Kelvin Taylor led the Gators attack with 121 yards rushing and two touchdowns, as Florida dominated Georgia on the ground for the second straight season, amassing 258 yards to just 69 by the Bulldogs.
Both teams struggled to score points early, until Florida recovered a muffed punt in the Bulldog end zone, giving them a 6-0 lead, which proved to be more then enough.
Here's What You Need To Know:
- The Gators defense was absolutely dominant, holding Georgia to just 223 total yards, marking the Bulldogs' second straight game without a touchdown.
- Treon Harris completed just eight passes for 155 yards, but for the second year in a row was the winning quarterback for the Gators. In his two wins against Georgia, the sophomore has only completed 11 passes.
- Bauta struggled in his first career start, throwing the four picks and completing less than 50 percent of his passes, yet Richt decided to keep the third-stringer in for the entire game
- The win marked Florida's 20th versus Georgia in the last 36 meetings, and all but wraps up the SEC East for the Gators.
- With a 5-1 SEC record, 7-1 overall, Florida can clinch the division with a win next week against Vanderbilt, and return to the SEC Championship game for the first time since 2009.
