Georgia's Sony Michel played through broken hand vs. Florida
Georgia running back Sony Michel suffered a broken bone in his hand on the first drive of the game against Florida on Saturday, and kept playing anyway.
Michel ended up carrying the ball 13 times in the 27-3 loss, and rushing for 45 yards - his worst mark since a 2012 loss at South Carolina. Head coach Mark Richt confirmed the news, saying Michel won't require surgery, though he failed to elaborate on the extent of the injury, and what the next steps might be.
“It’s part of the game. Those kinds of things happen," Richt told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Seth Emerson. "Everybody has gotta be able to step up and play in case somebody can’t. And sometimes you’ve gotta play when you’re hurt.
"There’s a difference between an injury that would keep you from playing and just pain.”
Michel was already playing through a minor groin injury, which forced him to rest during Georgia’s bye week. Richt said that wasn't an issue anymore, and he was good to go against the Gators.
“Sony was about as healthy as you could be this time of year going into the ballgame,” Richt said.
