CFP clause could extend Kirby Hocutt's contract as chairman
Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt took over as chairman of the College Football Playoff selection committee in January, and although his contract expires at the end of the 2016 season, a clause in the CFP protocol could extend his contract beyond this year, according to ESPN's Heather Dinich.
"Members will not be eligible for re-appointment, but a member's term may be extended one year if the member would serve as chair in what otherwise would be his/her final year," the clause says.
Hocutt took over for Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long, and CFP executive director Bill Hancock said the chairman position isn't meant to be held by one person for more than two years.
Hancock said a decision on Hocutt's tenure as chairman will be made in the future.
"We will discuss later whether Kirby's term might be extended," he said. "We made this adjustment because want the flexibility to allow a person to serve as chair two years."
