Bill Cubit frustrated over firing from Illinois: 'You can't get jobs now'

Illinois made some waves Saturday after firing its head coach and no one was more shocked than Bill Cubit himself.

Cubit told ESPN's Adam Rittenberg that the team was emotional when they received the news.

"I had a couple kids tearing up," Cubit said. "A couple of guys were in shock, which is normal. The kids were amazing."

The 62-year-old was most frustrated with the timing of the decision, saying he and the rest of his staff are going to have a difficult time finding jobs.

"You can't get jobs now," Cubit added. "There is no football jobs out there. So what do these guys do? That's the unfair part. And I want to coach. I can't find a job. We had some guys out there that had job opportunities. All of us did. Now it's March."

Coaching is certainly something Cubit would like to continue doing, but he notes that he'll be careful when choosing his next stop.

"I don't have to take any job," Cubit said. "I'm going to check things out to make sure it's exactly the right piece. I feel really good. I have all kinds of energy. If it's the right place and the right people, I'm going to look at it. I will look more at the administration. I'll look at that a lot more."
