Gardner, Borgstrom among 2018 NCHC award winners

The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced its 2018 award recipients Thursday, recognizing top players including Florida Panthers first-round draft selection Henrik Borgstrom.

On Wednesday, Borgstrom was also named one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award honoring the NCAA's top hockey player. The Panthers drafted him in 2016.
Will Borgen, a fourth-round pick by the Buffalo Sabres in 2015, and Rhett Gardner, selected by the Dallas Stars in the fourth round the following year, are among the winners as well.
Meanwhile, defenseman Scott Perunovich of Minnesota Duluth was named both Rookie of the Year and Offensive Defenseman of the Year. The 19-year-old ranks 124th among North American skaters for the 2018 draft.
