Thursday's First Baseman/DH Value Rankings
Here are the first baseman/DH value highlights for Thursday, April 7:
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Ryan Zimmerman (WAS) | vs. MIA | 10 |
Anthony Rizzo (CHC) | at ARI | 9 |
Zimmerman barely cracks the top-10 1B in terms of DFS salary, but facing sub-par SP Adam Conley could yield big dividends. The Nationals' slugger has better splits at home and versus left-handed pitching, with a disproportionate amount of home run power coming against southpaws. He's a great tournament option on Thursday.

Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Paul Goldschmidt (ARI) | vs. CHC | 7 |
Jose Abreu (CWS) | at OAK | 7 |
Brandon Belt (SF) | vs. LAD | 6 |
Albert Pujols (LAA) | vs. TEX | 6 |
Justin Bour (MIA) | at WAS | 6 |
Carlos Santana (CLE) | vs. BOS | 5 |
Billy Butler (OAK) | vs. CWS | 5 |
Byung-ho Park (MIN) | at BAL | 4 |
Alex Rodriguez (NYY) | vs. HOU | 4 |
Mark Teixeira (NYY) | vs. HOU | 4 |
For their position-leading prices, DFSers should look to Rizzo instead of Goldschmidt; the hitter's park in Arizona is a favorable environment, but Goldschmidt will face a tougher pitcher in John Lackey and will see fewer RBI opportunities with A.J. Pollock out with injury.
Pujols is 8-for-23 with six extra base hits against Derek Holland for his career. Balance those numbers against a career .274/.334/.477 triple-slash at Angel Stadium and Big Al makes for a low-end tournament play.
Rodriguez and Teixeira will make for good cash-game filler when playing at home against weak pitching. While they will be entering the familiar batter's box at Yankee Stadium, Mike Fiers isn't exactly a scrub. Though the Astros' starter isn't well-seasoned to AL hitting, he has a 2.89 ERA in 10 starts with at least six days of rest.

Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Adrian Gonzalez (LAD) | at SF | 3 |
Prince Fielder (TEX) | vs. LAA | 3 |
David Ortiz (BOS) | at CLE | 2 |
Joe Mauer (MIN) | at BAL | 2 |
Gonzalez has hit three homers in 23 at-bats against Jake Peavy, but only has two other hits (both singles) and no walks against the former Cy Young winner. For Gonzalez's price and limited contributions outside of the long-ball, he needs to be faded at cavernous AT&T Park.
Don't bother with Ortiz; he's facing the best starting pitcher on the slate in Danny Salazar.
