Thursday's Catcher Value Rankings
Here are the catcher value highlights for Thursday, April 7:
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Buster Posey (SF) | vs. LAD | 9 |
Kyle Schwarber (CHC) | at ARI | 9 |
Brian McCann (NYY) | vs. HOU | 8 |
Facing LHP Alex Wood, Posey's .329 career batting average against southpaws is great for cash games. His power numbers are much stronger on the road, so he's not likely to have the multi-homer night that can take down a deep tournament, but there's no steadier force at catcher than Posey.
Speaking of power potential, Schwarber is the man to have in tournaments; Rubby De La Rosa pitching at hitter-friendly Chase Field could mean a big night at the dish for the second-year Cub.
Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Miguel Montero (CHC) | at ARI | 7 |
Matt Wieters (BAL) | vs. MIN | 7 |
Yan Gomes (CLE) | vs. BOS | 6 |
Wilson Ramos (WAS) | vs. MIA | 4 |
Montero has played 457 games at Chase Field, most of them as a member of the Diamondbacks. He only has homered in 2.3 percent of his plate appearances, so don't count on him for power. What he does offer is a .345 OBP, which should keep the wheels turning for a potent Cubs lineup.

Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
J.T. Realmuto (MIA) | at WAS | 3 |
Blake Swihart (BOS) | at CLE | 2 |
Stephen Vogt (OAK) | vs. CWS | 2 |
Vogt has only started one of the Athletics' three games this season, batting eighth in the season opener. His big first half last season is fading from memory. There's no need to rely on Vogt until he demonstrates what his role is going to be moving forward.
