A-Rod shows off massive self-designed mansion
Alex Rodriguez is a man who knows architecture, so much so, his house was featured in Architectural Digest.
In addition to owning a pool and trampoline - staples in a multimillionaire father's home - Rodriguez showed his complex side with abstract paintings and artificial grass to conserve water.
"This house was the collaboration of a dream team," Rodriguez said. "The words I kept thinking were 'long term.' I kept imagining my kids rushing home from college for the holidays."
The house that A-Rod built is 11,000 square feet of paradise in Coral Gables, Fla., and was brought to its feet over the course of a year.
Not only is the mansion one of meticulous planning, but his eye for art is nearly as good as his eye for belt-high fastballs.
"Alex has a clear vision - no doubt from years of tracking a ball," said gallerist Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn, who advises him on his collection. "Lately he's been interested in artists of his generation who have a creative lineage to Warhol and Basquiat."
Rodriguez added, "I've gotten to know these artists very well by visiting their studios and watching them work, and a lot of them come to see me play at Yankee Stadium."
