MLB Daily Fantasy Dose: A's, Red Sox Could Combine for Another Football Score
Winslow Townson / USA TODAY Sports
Here's a look at the MLB daily fantasy picture ahead of Tuesday's 15-game slate.
Stacks of the Day
- Oakland Athletics (at Boston Red Sox): Spot starter Sean O'Sullivan has a fantastic name for a Boston pitcher, but the journeyman has a career 5.96 ERA and allowed six earned runs in each of his final three starts in 2015 for the Phillies. Oakland managed seven runs Monday despite losing badly, and another high-scoring affair for both sides looks to be in the cards.
3-player stack: OF Billy Burns, OF Coco Crisp, OF Josh Reddick
5-player stack: Burns, Crisp, Reddick, C Stephen Vogt, 1B Yonder Alonso
- Boston Red Sox (vs. Oakland Athletics): Baseball's third-highest-scoring offense is hard to ignore, especially after piling up 14 runs and 15 hits Monday. Jackie Bradley Jr. has managed a hit in all but five of his 31 games, and launched a grand slam Monday. Despite hitting at the bottom of the order, he's a viable fantasy option. Oakland SP Sean Manaea has allowed four earned runs in each of his first two starts.
3-player stack: 2B Dustin Pedroia, SS Xander Bogaerts, DH David Ortiz
5-player stack: Pedroia, Bogaerts, Ortiz, 1B Hanley Ramirez, Bradley Jr.
- Los Angeles Angels (vs. St. Louis Cardinals): The Angels are only 24th in runs scored, but one thing they don't do is strike out - they've done so just 166 times, the fewest in baseball. Making Cardinals SP Mike Leake work should yield positive results, given that Leake has allowed at least four runs in all six of his starts this season.
3-player stack: 3B Yunel Escobar, OF Kole Calhoun, OF Mike Trout
5-player stack: Escobar, Calhoun, Trout, DH Albert Pujols, 1B C.J. Cron

Bargain Plays
- C Kevin Plawecki, Mets: Plawecki has a hit and a run scored in three straight games, including his first home run of the season Monday. Dodgers SP Alex Wood allowed three long balls in his last start, and has allowed over a hit per inning with a 5.18 ERA. While the Mets' offense hasn't been prolific of late, the team still leads baseball with 49 home runs.
- 2B/SS Cliff Pennington, Angels: While not known for his offense, Pennington should see regular playing time thanks to Andrelton Simmons' thumb injury. Pennington has managed a hit in six of the nine games this season where he's had at least three at-bats, and the aforementioned struggles of Cardinals SP Leake should help his cause.
- SP Juan Nicasio, Pirates: Nicasio's best start of the season came in late April against the Reds, who he'll face again Tuesday. Nicasio allowed three hits and no runs in seven innings, striking out eight. On the season, he's striking out just over one batter per inning and has a 3.16 ERA. Keep an eye on the forecast, though, as a rain delay or postponement is a possibility.

Contrarian Options
- SP Matt Wisler, Braves: While recording a win for the 7-23 Braves may be difficult, Wisler is certainly capable of a solid performance. He held the Mets to just one hit and no runs over eight innings in his last start, and has a 3.24 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP on the season. He's only struggled against the Red Sox and Cardinals, two of MLB's top offenses. The Phillies rank 28th in runs scored and last in OBP.
- C Buster Posey, Giants: Posey is hitless in his last 14 at-bats, including a pinch-hit appearance Monday after being held out of the starting lineup. He's managed 11 multi-hit games this season, and with his pedigree as baseball's best offensive catcher, his slump surely won't linger. While not inexpensive, he comes significantly cheaper than the red-hot Welington Castillo on most sites.
- SS Troy Tulowitzki, Blue Jays: Tied for third among shortstops with five home runs, Tulowitzki has been an all-or-nothing hitter this season, thanks to a .165 average. His price has dipped to a level where he represents a relatively inexpensive gamble, and Giants SP Matt Cain has given up six home runs in as many starts.
