Monday's Catcher Value Rankings
Here are theScore's catcher value rankings for Monday, May 16 (all stats exclude Sunday's games):
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
| NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
|---|---|---|
| Welington Castillo (ARI) | vs. NYY | 9 |
| Yasmani Grandal (LAD) | vs. LAA | 8 |
Though he is beginning to see his numbers normalize, Castillo has been the shining diamond in a rather rough mine of fantasy catchers. His power numbers have come down but continues to slash a consistent .318/.333/.409. Perhaps a three-game series against the Yankees' volatile pitching staff is what Castillo needs to get back on track.
With the woeful Angels right-hander Matt Shoemaker toeing the rubber, Grandal is expected to backstop righty Kenta Maeda and is a rather intriguing option. Grandal has hit a homer in two of his last three outings while also adding four RBIs, making up for his .236 average.

Mid-Tier Targets
| NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
|---|---|---|
| Brian McCann (NYY) | at ARI | 7 |
| Bobby Wilson (TEX) | at OAK | 7 |
| J.T. Realmuto (MIA) | at PHI | 7 |
| Francisco Cervelli (PIT) | vs. ATL | 7 |
| Stephen Vogt (OAK) | vs. TEX | 6 |
| Carlos Ruiz (PHI) | vs. MIA | 6 |
| James McCann (DET) | vs. MIN | 5 |
| Chris Herrmann (ARI) | vs. NYY | 5 |
A trip to Chase Field is sure to increase the ownership percentage on the McCann. Maybe the Yankees' offense will come to life but until they prove otherwise, McCann should be limited to tournaments.
Though he doesn't have the same pop we have witnessed in past years, Ruiz has been quietly efficient thus far, hitting a respectable .291 with an even more impressive .880 OPS. He's hitless in his last two starts, and faces Marlins lefty Adam Conley, who owns a solid 3.72 ERA.
Herrmann has been hot of late, crushing three homers with 10 RBIs over his last 10 outings, but takes a backseat to Castillo. If he starts, his modest salary offers DFS cap relief in tournaments.

Nothing to See Here
| NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
|---|---|---|
| Russell Martin (TOR) | vs. TB | 4 |
| Geovany Soto (LAA) | at LAD | 4 |
| A.J. Pierzynski (ATL) | at PIT | 3 |
| Salvador Perez (KC) | vs. BOS | 3 |
| Curt Casali (TB) | at TOR | 3 |
Martin's high salary and dreadful production should be faded, especially against the Rays southpaw Drew Smyly, who has already fanned 52 batters while walking just eight.
