Tuesday's Shortstop Value Rankings
Here are theScore's shortstop value rankings for Tuesday, May 24 (all stats exclude Monday's games):
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Trevor Story (COL) | at BOS | 8 |
Manny Machado (BAL) | at HOU | 8 |
Jordy Mercer (PIT) | vs. ARI | 8 |
Jonathan Villar (MIL) | at ATL | 8 |
Zack Cozart (CIN) | at LAD | 8 |
Story's price dips for a meeting with David Price, who despite a 6-1 record, holds a 5.53 ERA. Story hits lefties fairly well, and Fenway Park is certainly conducive to offense. While Machado has had two straight hitless games, he's still appealing at a discount.
Mercer isn't explosive, but has a .303 average and a seven-game hit streak that should continue against the erratic Shelby Miller.
Mid-Tier Targets

Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Brandon Crawford (SF) | vs. SD | 7 |
Xander Bogaerts (BOS) | vs. COL | 7 |
Carlos Correa (HOU) | vs. BAL | 7 |
Francisco Lindor (CLE) | at CWS | 7 |
Gregorio Petit (LAA) | at TEX | 7 |
Brad Miller (TB) | at MIA | 7 |
Corey Seager (LAD) | vs. CIN | 6 |
Aledmys Diaz (STL) | vs. CHC | 6 |
Troy Tulowitzki (TOR) | at NYY | 6 |
Elvis Andrus (TEX) | vs. LAA | 6 |
Jimmy Rollins (CWS) | vs. CLE | 6 |
Alcides Escobar (KC) | at MIN | 6 |
Nick Ahmed (ARI) | at PIT | 5 |
Danny Espinosa (WAS) | vs. NYM | 5 |
Asdrubal Cabrera (NYM) | at WAS | 5 |
Eduardo Nunez (MIN) | vs. KC | 5 |
Like most of his teammates, Lindor becomes a budget option thanks to an encounter with Chris Sale. With seven multi-hit games out of 10, he remains a viable selection despite the matchup.
Seager is the priciest option at the position on some sites. A matchup with Reds rookie RHP Daniel Wright and his 1.29 Triple-A ERA may not be as easy as it seems.
Nothing to See Here
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Alexei Ramirez (SD) | at SF | 3 |
Adeiny Hechavarria (MIA) | vs. TB | 3 |
Jose Iglesias (DET) | vs. PHI | 3 |
Javier Baez (CHC) | at STL | 3 |
Addison Russell (CHC) | at STL | 3 |
Baez and Russell have combined for one hit over their last four games. Wherever they play in the infield, neither one is worth rostering at the moment.
