Here are theScore's first baseman/DH value rankings for Saturday, June 4 (all stats exclude Friday's games):

Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP

Top Options

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Eric Hosmer (KC) at CLE 9
Albert Pujols (LAA) at PIT 8
Dae-Ho Lee (SEA) at TEX 8
Adrian Gonzalez (LAD) vs. ATL 8
David Ortiz (BOS) vs. TOR 8

Hosmer is the go-to on sites where his salary has inexplicably plummeted. He is the Royals' best hitter and has been on a tear hitting .405 with a pair of long balls and 14 RBIs over his last 10 games. He's hitting close to .400 on the season versus right-handed pitching and Indians SP Josh Tomlin should not be a dissuading force even with slight success against Hosmer in limited at-bats.

Otherwise, pay for your power. Pujols and Ortiz are worthy for different reasons. Pujols, while struggling for average, has demolished left-handed pitching for his career and matches up very well against Pirates LHP Jeff Locke. No one has been able to solve Ortiz. He'll cost a lot, but you're paying for consistency and upside.

Mid-Tier Targets

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Joe Mauer (MIN) vs. TB 7
Paul Goldschmidt (ARI) at CHC 7
Victor Martinez (DET) vs. CWS 7
Wil Myers (SD) vs. COL 6
Edwin Encarnacion (TOR) at BOS 6
Travis Shaw (BOS) vs. TOR 6
Chris Davis (BAL) vs. NYY 6
Brandon Belt (SF) at STL 6

Martinez will see his salary drop on many sites, and he will be a contrarian going up against White Sox LHP Chris Sale. Historically, Martinez has hit lefties well and in a limited sample of 34 at-bats, he's handled Sale, hitting four home runs off the elite southpaw. There's always risk, but Martinez is the best option in Detroit's offense and will be owned by few. He's great in GPPs.

It's hard to believe but Davis did not factor much into the Orioles' 12-run bonanza against the Red Sox on Thursday. With zero homers and 17 Ks over his last 10 games, he hasn't been factoring into much. Another solid matchup against Yankees RHP Ivan Nova looks appealing, but it is difficult to recommend investing the asking price on the struggling slugger.

Name Opponent Value
Anthony Rizzo (CHC) vs. ARI 5
Matt Adams (STL) vs. SF 5
Miguel Cabrera (DET) vs. CWS 5
Byung Ho Park (MIN) vs. TB 5
Joey Votto (CIN) vs. WAS 5
Kendrys Morales (KC) at CLE 5
Pedro Alvarez (BAL) vs. NYY 5
Jose Abreu (CWS) at DET 5

As poorly as Diamondbacks LHP Edwin Escobar pitched in his first start, Rizzo has not been able to do much against left-handers this season. His .161 batting average against southpaws makes him more of a contrarian choice, because his upside still exists. Adams is starting more regularly and comes at a discount. Giants RHP Jeff Samardzija has been tough on all batters, though.

Nothing to See Here

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Hanley Ramirez (BOS) vs. TOR 4
Steve Pearce (TB) at MIN 4
Justin Bour (MIA) vs. NYM 4
Adam Lind (SEA) at TEX 3
Prince Fielder (TEX) vs. SEA 3
Tommy Joseph (PHI) vs. MIL 3
Alex Rodriguez (NYY) at BAL 3
Freddie Freeman (ATL) at LAD 2
Mitch Moreland (TEX) vs. SEA 2
Mark Teixeira (NYY) at BAL 2
Jefry Marte (LAA) at PIT 2
Wilmer Flores (NYM) at MIA 1

Pearce remains a better option at 2B where eligible as the position is a bit thinner. Lind should be automatically faded against LHPs, as he'll often sit. At this point, any recommendation in favor of A-Rod basically translates as "he's due". Stay away until shows something.

Freeman needs to be avoided with Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw staring him down. Teixeira has been unfathomably worse than teammate Rodriguez. Flores would be an intriguing target as he stands to replace the injured David Wright at 3B - he sometimes has 1B eligibility - but his salary has jumped exponentially. If you use a site where this isn't the case, it increases his value.
