Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Marco Estrada (TOR) | at PHI | 10 |
Johnny Cueto (SF) | vs. MIL | 10 |
Adam Wainwright (STL) | vs. HOU | 9 |
Sonny Gray (OAK) | vs. TEX | 9 |
Anthony DeSclafani (CIN) | at ATL | 8 |
Noah Syndergaard (NYM) | vs. PIT | 8 |
Tied with Clayton Kershaw for the lowest opponent batting average among all qualified starting pitchers at .168, is none other than Marco Estrada. The soft-tossing righty is priced below the top-tier of pitchers, but has allowed just 29 hits over 62 2/3 innings in his last nine starts. He sits fourth in the AL in ERA and will face the Phillies, who have the second-worst wRC+ in the bigs.
Johnny Beisbol has an astonishing 1.01 ERA over his last seven starts. He will face the Brewers, who have scored the third-fewest runs away from home this season. Milwaukee has done a nice job drawing walks, but they have recorded the second-most strikeouts in the majors, giving Cueto huge upside.
Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Clayton Kershaw (LAD) | at ARI | 7 |
Corey Kluber (CLE) | at KC | 7 |
Steven Wright (BOS) | vs. BAL | 7 |
Jimmy Nelson (MIL) | at SF | 7 |
Jason Hammel (CHC) | at WAS | 6 |
Bud Norris (ATL) | vs. CIN | 6 |
Patrick Corbin (ARI) | vs. LAD | 5 |
Ian Kennedy (KC) | vs. CLE | 5 |
Chris Sale (CWS) | vs. DET | 5 |
Nate Karns (SEA) | at TB | 5 |
Justin Nicolino (MIA) | at SD | 5 |
Kevin Gausman (BAL) | at BOS | 5 |
You might think it's crazy to keep Kershaw out of the Top Options. He will pitch at the hitter-friendly Chase Field against the D-Backs, who have the third-best wRC+ against lefties this season. Obviously Kershaw is no ordinary lefty, but it's something to keep in mind before exposing your whole roster to draft him. His salary makes him nearly impossible to draft in one-pitcher formats.
Sale has allowed 17 earned runs in 22 2/3 innings over his last four starts. He simply isn't worth the price of admission against the Tigers, who are responsible for one of those dreadful outings, and have a lineup full of veteran right-handed hitters.
Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Stephen Strasburg (WAS) | vs. CHC | 4 |
Derek Holland (TEX) | at OAK | 4 |
Tyler Duffey (MIN) | at LAA | 4 |
Hector Santiago (LAA) | vs. MIN | 3 |
Drew Smyly (TB) | vs. SEA | 3 |
Jeremy Hellickson (PHI) | vs. TOR | 3 |
Mike Pelfrey (DET) | at CWS | 3 |
Chad Bettis (COL) | vs. NYY | 3 |
Ivan Nova (NYY) | at COL | 2 |
Collin McHugh (HOU) | at STL | 2 |
Luis Perdomo (SD) | vs. MIA | 1 |
With plenty of aces on this slate, it's simply not worth investing in Strasburg. He is coming off back-to-back rough starts against the Phillies and the Reds, and will now face the Cubs - the third-highest-scoring offense in the majors.
