Report: Warriors seeking $15M-$20M per year for ad spot on jersey
The Golden State Warriors are looking to take advantage of NBA's newly approved jersey sponsorship.
The Warriors are seeking $15 million to $20 million per year for the rights for a company to advertise on their jersey, sources tell ESPN's Darren Rovell. Any deal would not begin until the 2017-18 season, when the NBA kicks off a three-year trial period for the ads.
While the figure seems high, the Warriors are unquestionably the league's most marketable team at the moment, and will have a number of prime-time games that should bring in large audiences.
The patch would be worth between $12.9 million and $19.3 million if the Warriors played in at least 30 nationally televised games, a spokesperson from a marketing evaluation company told Rovell.
Although the logo jerseys will not be available at retail nationwide, teams will have the option of selling jerseys with the corporate logo in their team stores. Given that both Steph Curry and Kevin Durant finished last season top-five in jersey sales, it's conceivable the Warriors would have no issue selling them to fans.
The Philadelphia 76ers are the only team to land a jersey sponsor to date, inking a three-year deal worth $5 million per year with StubHub in May.
All logo patches will appear on the left shoulder of the jersey, measuring 2.5-inches-by-2.5-inches in size.
