Muhammad Ali's 'Fight of the Century' gloves sell at auction for $606,375
The pair of gloves worn by Muhammad Ali during his 1971 'Fight of the Century', arguably the greatest boxing match of all-time, have made collector Jeff Rosenberg a very rich man.
The gloves, used to battle 'Smokin' Joe Frazier at Madison Square Garden, sold in an online auction for a total of $606,375, according to Darren Rovell of ESPN. Rosenberg purchased the gloves in 2014 and turned a cool profit of $218,000 in Sunday's transaction.
Despite making a substantial amount of money, Rosenberg says it will be hard to see the gloves go.
"No matter what the price, there's going to be a sense of loss," Rosenberg said at the time. "It's a connection to the greatest fight."
While $606,375 is a considerable figure, the fee is not the highest ever listed for a pair of Ali gloves. That honor belongs to the ones he wore in his first fight against Sonny Liston in 1964, which fetched a whopping $836,500 in 2014.
