Urban Meyer: Cincinnati 'should be in the Big 12'
Cincinnati received a big boost from an alumnus in its bid to join Big 12 expansion.
Urban Meyer, who happens to be serving as head coach of rival Ohio State, is pleased to hear that his former college is being mentioned in expansion conversations as the prestigious conference opens its doors to two new schools.
“That's great, I am a graduate, a fan. I think they should be in the Big 12," Meyer told Austin Ward of ESPN.
“I'm saying that without making all the research necessary to really make that comment. That's more of as a fan ... and my sister is a [vice] provost there, so I know that school very well. I couldn't be happier for that city and for that school if they do get in the Big 12.”
The Ohio State head coach earned his undergraduate degree from Cincinnati in 1986, while also playing defensive back for the Bearcats.
Cincinnati is one of 18 teams making a pitch to the conference in the hopes of being extended an invite.
