Report: WWE to induct Rick Rude into Hall of Fame
World Wrestling Entertainment may have found the headliner for its 2017 Hall of Fame class in the form of the "Ravishing" one.
The company is reportedly planning on inducting the late Rick Rude this year, according to PWInsider.com.
Rude's character was that of a narcissist who was obsessed with his physique, constantly telling males in the audience that they were out of shape, and how women always wanted to be with him. He even wore special airbrushed tights that would occasionally feature likenesses of some of Hollywood's top actresses.
He first found mainstream success in the World Wrestling Federation in the late eighties, becoming a member of the infamous Heenan Family faction and capturing the prestigious Intercontinental Championship. Rude departed the promotion in 1990 to head to World Championship Wrestling, becoming United States Champion with the Dangerous Alliance and feuding with the likes of Sting and Ricky Steamboat.
Rude also had a short stint with the WWF in 1997 as a member of D-Generation X, acting as a ringside assailant for the heel faction. On Nov. 17, 1997, he became the first and only individual to ever appear on both Monday Night Raw and Monday Nitro on the same night, as Raw was taped and Nitro aired live. This was doable since he wasn't under a full-time contract with WWF at the time.
Rude died on April 20, 1999 as a result of heart failure. An autopsy later revealed he mixed medications, which resulted in his death.
The HOF ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 1 at the Amway Center in Orlando during WrestleMania weekend. It's not known at this time who will be the one to induct Rude that night.
