Looking for some guidance? Here are a pair of sample lineups to help you on your way:
'Patriots are going to win!' lineup
POS | NAME | OPP | FPPG | SALARY |
---|---|---|---|---|
QB | Tom Brady (NE) | at ATL | 24.6 | 87K |
RB | Dion Lewis (NE) | at ATL | 6.6 | 35K |
WR | Julian Edelman (NE) | at ATL | 7.3 | 32K |
TE | Martellus Bennett (NE) | at ATL | 8.7 | 27K |
FLX | Taylor Gabriel (ATL) | vs. NE | 9.4 | 28K |
The key to winning such a competitive tournament with this small of a player pool will be to load up on the team you think is going to win and select the right value play from the opponent. Brady and Edelman are the obvious choices for a New England stack, as the Falcons struggle most against slot receivers. Edelman had at least eight catches and 118 yards in each of New England's two playoff games thus far.
Lewis offers some separation from RB LeGarrette Blount. While Blount will see the goal-line work, Lewis gets a boost with special teams work. Per Football Outsiders, Atlanta ranked 26th in DVOA against pass-catching running backs, allowing 9.1 targets and 53.5 yards per game.
The Falcons allowed 0.5 touchdowns per week to tight ends in the regular season, making Bennett the safest tight end choice, especially with TEs Levine Toilolo and Austin Hooper splitting work for the Falcons.
Gabriel has seen just nine total targets through two playoff games, including three in the NFC Championship against the Green Bay Packers. If the Falcons are forced to play catch up at any point, they could look to take some shots at the speedster.
'Falcons are going to win!' lineup
POS | NAME | OPP | FPPG | SALARY |
---|---|---|---|---|
QB | Matt Ryan (ATL) | vs. NE | 25.2 | 85K |
RB | Tevin Coleman (ATL) | vs. NE | 13.5 | 35K |
WR | Julio Jones (ATL) | vs. NE | 15.6 | 58K |
TE | Martellus Bennett (NE) | at ATL | 8.7 | 27K |
FLX | Taylor Gabriel (ATL) | vs. NE | 9.4 | 28K |
Historically more mistake prone than his QB counterpart, Ryan will have the luxury of not having LB Vic Beasley Jr. baring down on him all game. The Falcons' offensive line is also grossly superior to that of the Patriots, with four of five starting linemen boasting a Pro Football Focus grade of at least 75.
Star players of Jones' caliber tend to overcome more serious injuries than his current foot ailment in the Super Bowl. He has the highest upside of any offensive player in the game.
With two high-powered offenses, both are likely to focus more on the passing game than on the rush, giving a slight edge to Coleman over teammate Devonta Freeman. Choosing the correct Falcons' running back will be the key to a top finish, but Coleman does offer substantial salary relief.
