Boxing trainer and manager Lou Duva dead at 94
Legendary boxing trainer and manager Lou Duva died Wednesday of natural causes, his son, Dino, confirmed to Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole.
He was 94.
The International Boxing Hall of Famer had been admitted to St. Joseph Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey, nine days prior.
Born in New York City and raised in Paterson, Duva came to prominence as the manager and trainer for Main Events, founded in 1978 and run by his sons Dino and the late Dan. The family operation put its stamp on dozens of championship bouts, including a trio of heavyweight blockbusters between Evander Holyfield and Riddick Bowe, which grossed a combined $100 million in pay-per-view revenue.
Duva worked with 19 world champions - including Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whittaker and Vinny Pazienza - over the course of his illustrious career, and was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1998.
He is survived by Dino, his daughter Donna, 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
